On September 12. 2006 Ad Pirum, together with the National Museum
of Contemporary History of Slovenia in Ljubljana, has published
the book »Utrjena Ljubljana / The Ring of Wire« subtitled »the wire
around Ljubljana 1942-1945«. The book describes the blockade of
the city of Ljubljana during the second wiorld war and gives the
extensive description of the fortifications along the wire ring.
This is the first book describing from a certain historic distance
not only the war time events leading to the erection of the wire
ring and it's maintenance, but also it's post-war transformation
into a unique memorial and city's recreational park. Presently the
collective memory of the ring may indeed still persist, but the
memory of concrete fortifications is inevitably fading away. Author's
work therefore represents a precious source for both the citizens
of Ljubljana and those interested in history and fortifications.
Another advantage of the book is it's bilinguality. It is writen
in both Slovenian and English. The publishing of the book was accompanied
by the exibition with the same title in the National Museum of Contemporary
History of Slovenia in Ljubljana, opened until the end of October
2006.
